What is Mold?
Molds are a type of fungus, as are mushrooms, yeasts, and mildews.  Mold spores occur naturally outdoors and you cannot be outdoors without breathing in some mold spores.  Indoors, mold needs moisture to grow; they can become a problem where there is water damage, elevated and prolonged humidity, or dampness.

"Black Mold"
There really is no such thing as "black mold", it was made up and used by the media, truly it is Fake News!''  The term is usually associated with a specific type of mold called Stachybotrys.  Stachybotrys can be black or green and is often found on materials that remain water-saturated after a water intrusion event.

Can Molds Be Harmful?
The answer is YES!  If you live or work in an environment where molds are present and growing can increase your risk or respiratory problems or asthma.  Those who may be at increased risk include:
  • People with existing breathing difficulties, allergies or asthma
  • Infants and children
  • The elderly
  • Those who are already sick
  • Pregnant women
